The recent introduction of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) that selectively inhibit cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), has generated considerable enthusiasm as potential class of analgesic drugs with reduced side-effectliability. This article reviews the pharmacology of the COX2 inhibitors from the perspective of their potential role in the management of the endodontic pain patient.
